Cha Cha Cha Cha Changin’…Foundation

Clinique Foundation

Within the past week or so I decided it was time to touch up my roots. Maybe it was Spring calling or just the fact that I had major regrowth and needed to do a touch up…it just needed to get done. And so it goes…I ended up deepening my hair color too. This ultimately gave me more depth and color to my skin and my usual foundation no longer really suited me, so it was time to get a new one.  What an easy excuse to visit my dear friend, Sephora.

Oh, how long has it been? Just a few days, I suppose (It just so happens I work next to a Sephora…Constant. Torture.) As I stroll from Tarte to Bobbi Brown, I find myself in between Clinique and Makeup Forever. As my eyes gazed from left to right, I immediately saw Clinique’s new foundation display, “The Can Do Makeup. New. 2 in 1 Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer”. I was convinced to purchase with the words, “Beyond Perfecting”… I’m a total sucker for that marketing crap. Anyway, I tested some colors along my jawline and found the color, Ivory, which is a fair shade with pink undertones. I couldn’t wait to go home and play!

The next day I was going to work and what a perfect opportunity to give it a test. The claim for this foundation is that it is full coverage without the full coverage feel, light weight consistency. The Clinique website describes the foundation as the following:

A foundation-and-concealer in one for a natural, beyond perfected look that lasts all day. Lightweight, moisturizing makeup covers thoroughly without clogging pores. Skin breathes comfortably, colour stays true, even through sweat and humidity.

Due to the rich pigment level that enhances this flawless coverage makeup, shades may appear deeper when first applied. Once blended completely and allowed to dry, Beyond Perfecting Makeup will melt into your skin for a Beyond Perfected flawless look. A little goes a long way!

Well, all of these claims are in fact is true! First, I have to talk about the applicator. It is like a giant doe foot lip gloss applicator…giant version! This is attached to the lid. You just unscrew and dab and blend. Because of the moisturizing nature you can just dot and blend. You don’t have to worry that it will stick to those spots. However, I wouldn’t recommend this on first application, as you really need to see the coverage one little dab will provide. I over dabbed the first time I tried it. Overall the feel is very light weight and I forget I am even wearing foundation when I come home from work. (My usual routine is to come inside, throw on comfy clothes, wash my face…)  The coverage is amazing and there truly is no need for a separate concealer. While I continue to use my primer combo, this does not fade or transfer off throughout the day. The finish is a semi matte which is nice because it’s not soooo matte that I look dry but matte with the perfect amount of glow. Oh, and the color stays true all day long (well, I guess at most 12 hours as I have not tested beyond a 12 hour day).

Me with Clinique’s New 2 in 1 Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer

For only $27 for a department store makeup, I am really impressed. I mean, it’s been a while that I’ve used Clinique and I guess I just forgot how good their products really are! The coverage is amazing and the product is so easy to use that this is my new go to foundation. Oh, and it does indicate that the color may initially appear darker, but as you continue to blend the color will blend seamlessly into your skin. Clinique advertises this is suitable for all skin types so if you are in need of a new foundation or just wanting to give a new one a try, I definitely recommend this one!
