That’s right everyone! I am no longer a hair virgin! I had my first ever experience at a blow dry bar!
For those of you who are not familiar with a blow dry bar, it’s like a salon, but you can only get your hair washed, blow-dried and styled. That’s it! No cut, no color, no perms (do people even do those anymore???). They’ve been around a few years now and even though I have beauty colleagues who swear by them, I’ve never gone. I guess the thought of forking over 40 bucks plus tip just to have somebody blow dry my hair was a little much. If I had only known what it all entailed…I would’ve been a regular a LONG time ago!
It was a rainy Saturday and I was walking around the mall doing a little retail therapy. My hubbie and I were going out that night and as I walked by the dry bar, I thought, “What the heck! If anything, I’ll use it to write an article!” The place I went to was in the Westfield University Towne Centre Mall here in La Jolla, California and it was called BlowPop DryBar. I, of course, didn’t have an appointment on a Saturday afternoon, but they were able to squeeze me in. A fabulous gent immediately offered me a glass of champagne. HELLO!!!! Right there I was in heaven!
Bryanna was my stylist. She asked me what I wanted and I told her that since I usually wear my hair stick straight, that’d I’d like a little va-va-voom volume. She then took me into another room to get my hair washed. It was nice having a private room just for hair washing. A giant Bridgitte Bardot was painted on the wall. Again, brownie points for me. Champagne AND Bridgitte Bardot??? LOVE IT!
Bryanna did a super soothing hair wash (is there a better feeling in the world than having someone wash and massage your head?) and then took me back to my chair (and my champagne). 🙂 She put very little product in my hair which was nice. Most stylists like to overload my hair with all sorts of stuff and then started to blow dry my hair. She did the top first and set it in large velcro curlers to cool while she finished the rest. The end result??? The most gorgeous amount of body my hair has EVER had with just a smidgen of root volumizer!
Now, I don’t know if it was the hair or if I was just imagining things, but walking the through the rest of the mall, I swear people were looking at me! I had a bounce in my step (ok, so maybe some of that was the champagne.) But the overall experience was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Why didn’t I do this sooner! We women need a little splurge on ourselves every now and then and nothing beats going to a blow dry bar. I will happily pay $40 plus tip for some champagne, someone to wash and massage my head and to have an AMAZING hair day. After all, when you are having a good hair day, don’t you also tend to have a good day overall? What price would you put on having a good day?
The dreaded before photo. And you’re supposed to make funny faces in the before; makes the after even better. And look! Brigitte Bardot photo bombed me!
The after photo. I mean come on!!! AWESOME HAIR!!!
The morning after even had great body still! If it hadn’t been raining I probably would’ve had another 1 or 2 days with the blowout. Darn rain! But we in SoCal need it, so I shouldn’t complain. I’ll just have to go get another blowout! 🙂
Have you been to a blow dry bar? What was your experience?
