Did you know that February is Marijuana Awareness Month? Neither did I until Jeanette and I were sitting around looking for some good topics and discovered February was indeed, Marijuana Awareness Month. So, voila,I thought this would be the perfect time to investigate any beauty products out there made with that green plant. Turns out there are. A lot. I’ve seen random Hemp products out in the market, however, I didn’t realize how many there actually are!
Just so you know, there is a lot of information on the subject and I tried to get the short and sweet beauty version for you. However, if you find some of this as interesting as I do, then you can follow the links for more information.
So, first things first, no, you can’t get high from it. Geez. However, Hemp seed oil, (this is an oil obtained by pressing the seeds and releasing their natural oils) is not only less likely to cause an allergic reaction, it is has also been known to cure dermatitis and other serious skin conditions. The oil is of high nutritional value because of its 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids, which matches the balance required by the human body.
That basically means Hemp Seed Oil is a perfect ingredient which will help with skin hydration, nourishment and conditioning. It just so happens Hemp has been used for thousands of years for items such as paper and rope and is used today in skin care and hair care products. I’m sure if you have ever been to The Body Shop, you have seen their Hemp line, which has received high rated reviews. There is also Hempz body care, (okay, I totally remember seeing this product in the store and I’ve tried it and it smells like a vacation in a bottle) which has various body, skin and lip care products which claim to renew skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Then, I found a cosmetics line, Colorganics, that uses Hemp oil in all of its color cosmetics. Pretty Cool.
With all the great benefits of Hemp Seed oil, I think I’m going to have to give it a try and test a product that contains the ingredient. I am just getting down to the bottom of my current facial moisturizer, so I guess that’s as good a place as any to begin.
